Gatotkaca Temple in Dieng Kulon Village, Banjarnegara

Apart from Arjuna Temple complex, Dieng Plateau has other famous temple group called Gatotkaca. As the name suggests, the main temple is definitely the Gatotkaca Temple. It resides near to Pangonan Hill and Balekambang Lake. The fact is that the temple is situated near to Kailasa Museum, as well. That strategic location becomes the main reason why lots of tourists often come to the site. The other reasons are the comfortable atmosphere and stunning nature views that surround the temple. It is considered the second most popular temple in Dieng after Arjuna, in fact.

The Nuance
Gatotkaca Temple is located on a hill, which is also near to Arjuna Temple complex. Both of them are connected by an easy part, featuring an uphill route. Moreover, it takes only 15 minutes to reach each of the complexes. When it comes to the shape, Gatotkaca shares a similar appearance to that of Dwarawati. One thing that makes it different is its roof, which is similar to Amalaka’s. The size is moderate and it faces west. It is also situated in front of a famous museum called Kailasa. Due to its strategic location.

Exploring Gatotkaca Temple
Even though Gatotkaca Temple is considered a complex of temples, it is the last one that can be seen clearly on the site, including Setyaki. The others have been in a bad shape, so they are not able to be identified anymore. The fun thing is that visitors can learn a bit history of Gatotkaca Temple. It is said the structure has been there since the reign of Sima Queen of Kalingga Kingdom. It was in the 8th century! This kind of information is provided by either the locals or tour guide. Tourists can also learn it in Kailasa Museum.

There is a ticket fee for entering the location. The price is affordable, but it becomes pricier during holidays. Have no worries. Everyone can afford it, and it is considered quite rewarding. At the site, tourists can take pictures to their heart’s content and witness stunning views on the horizon, including Prau Mountain, Balekambang Lake, and much more. Here is the thing. The temperature can be quite cold, especially in the morning. For the sake of comfort, visitors must wear a jacket and proper clothes.

Carrying and eating snacks are allowed at the site, but littering is highly prohibited. Being a famous tourist spot in Dieng Plateau, everyone should take care of the environment and do not cause any harms to the temple. That’s basic rule, after all. The next thing to do is to visit nearby temples, especially Setyaki (one that resides in the same complex) and Arjuna (one that is located in neighboring temple complex).
